Practice Social Dance
Fridays
Goals: To provide a "practice dance" environment as a bridge between the Wednesday/Thursday group classes and venturing out into community dances. Suitable for both experienced dancers who have grown beyond what the newcomer-focused classes can offer and new dancers who would like the opportunity to refine their skills. An opportunity to socialize, improve physical competency and gain confidence.
Program description: A twice monthly social partner-dance offering which allows for individualized instruction, social dancing in a supervised and less intimidating environment and flexible programming able to address the needs/desires of each participant on an evolving weekly basis. Individualized attention.
Skills developed:
General fitness, strength, stability, balance, coordination.
Dance skills specific to a wide variety of individual ballroom/Latin/swing/country dances.
Musicality, floor craft, spatial awareness, dance etiquette.
Potential for accelerated learning not available in existing dance offerings.
Equipment needed: None provided by the Recreation Center.
Students should wear snug-fitting shoes that can glide easily for joint health.
